Max Roger GUÉGUEN

Max Roger Guéguen, a specialist in the ancient art of Illumination, Heraldry and Calligraphy works out of his studio at "de la place Pasteur" in Bayonne. Having been commissioned by the French Government on several occasions to create City Crests, Government "coat of arms" and Official documents, his art can be found on the walls of State Presidents around the world. His skills however are also in demand by individuals and companies for Family Crests, general Illumination art and calligraphy. Having studied the craft and techniques of traditional drawing and writing instruments, tools, materials and inks and by applying these skills to his art today, Max ensures that the nobility of this tradition lives on.

Born in Brest, France, Max developed an interest in heraldic art at an early age.  Max has studied and is skilled in the traditional and ancient art forms where the drawings are still made with original feather plume pens.

After the script and drawings have been made, Gold foil is applied to the parchment or skin.  The colors are all based natural pigments.  The drawings, parchments and coat of arms designs are done on true parchment, wood or other surfaces.  These techniques offer a vast range of designs and manuscripts such as :  Legal manuscripts and seals, friendship pacts, diplomas, genealogical trees, Book illustrations, logos, all works of written calligraphy, invitations, envelopes, poems, re-pigmentation of old manuscripts, castle watercolors and painting of historic figurines.

All items are unique and individually signed.

Max also gives courses in manuscript illumination in Bayonne.  Max is available to accept your specific request in any of the above disciplines.
